Action
Card – July 2006

Refugee from Burma
Saw Moo Wa was, we think,
about 11-12 years old when he was brought over the Thai/Burma border to
the Mai Tao Clinic in Mae Sot, Thailand. Before his leg was blown off he
had been working in a field as a cowhand, herding cows to support his
siblings, as his mother had died and his father had been taken by the
Burmese military to act as a porter. He had been the only means of
support for his brother and sisters. He just had the clothes he stood up
in and no education at all so that he was unable to read and write.
Since his arrival in the clinic his leg has taken many months to heal.
At last a prosthetic leg was made and fitted. When it was all finished
he decided to risk returning to Burma to try to continue to support his
siblings. A group from the UK helped to support him during his stay with
clothes, toys, and day to day welfare.
Saw Moo Wa is just one of
many hundreds of children who are wounded and killed daily inside Burma.
Those who escape to the border camps are fortunate. Inside Burma the
persecution of the people continues unabated, including forced labour,
forced relocation and the jailing of people who have displeased the
military regime. There are currently roughly 1100 political prisoners in
Burma. Many NGOs are now leaving Burma in despair, which is all the more
reason for as many people as possible to support the Burmese people in
the border camps in whatever way they can.
The Christians Aware Burma
Group meets regularly to raise awareness and support for the people.
Please send your card of
support to Jeremy Fowler at 2, Chapel Close, Leavesden, near Watford.
WD25 7AR. Jeremy will go out to the Burma/Thailand border area in the
Autumn, when he will take the cards, together with medicines, school
books and equipment and financial support for the people.
