Action Card - March 2008
Six months before scheduled elections,
Zimbabwe is closer than ever to complete collapse. Inflation is between
7,600 per cent (government figures) and 13,000 per cent (independent
estimates). Four out of five of the country’s twelve million people
live below the poverty line and a quarter have fled, mainly to
neighbouring countries. A military-led campaign to slash prices has
produced acute food and fuel shortages, and conducting business is
becoming almost impossible. Areas that were known for drought have
recently been affected by floods which have destroyed crops leading to
concern for this year’s harvest.
Organisations such as ‘The Zimbabwe Christian
Alliance (ZCA)’ work across all denominations trying to resolve the
crisis in Zimbabwe by bringing about social transformation through
prophetic action. They have helped the ‘Save Zimbabwe Campaign’ which
is a forum, to work together on solutions for the many challenges facing
the country. They hold prayer rallies to pray for the situation and to
raise awareness of the issues. Information is sent out to people in
rural areas which helps to counteract the government’s control of media
messages.
ACTIONS
Pray for unity, wisdom and strength for ZCA as
they seek to hear God’s voice for the country of Zimbabwe and for
themselves as an organisation.
Write to the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Gordon
Brown MP, 10 Downing Street, London SW1A 2AA, to show your concern for
accountability in the forthcoming elections and the current situation.
