Assembly Service including Holy Communion
Assisted by the Chaplain and the General Secretary, the Moderator presided as the Assembly celebrated the Sacrament of Holy Communion. The Sermon was delivered by the Revd Elizabeth Welch, immediate past-Moderator.
Commemoration of Ministers and Missionaries
The act of worship included the commemoration of the following ministers and missionaries of the United Reformed Church who have died since the last Assembly:
Ministers who have served at home and as missionaries overseas
And have died since Assembly 2001

Synod Presentation
Following a break, the Moderator called upon the Southern Synod to make its presentation.
Mission Council Resolutions
The General Secretary moved the adoption of
Resolution 24
Resolution 24 Ending of full-time stipendiary service
Assembly agrees that full-time stipendiary service for ministers and CRCWs will cease at the end of the month in which a person reaches her/his 65th birthday unless
a) a commitment to extend had been agreed through current procedures before
4 July 2002;
or b) a case has been accepted by the Accreditation Sub-Committee that there are exceptional reasons why the particular piece of stipendiary service should be extended for a limited time.
After debate, the Moderator called upon the Assembly to vote.
Resolution 24 was carried.
Mr Graham Stacy, Convener of the Finance Committee, moved adoption of Resolution 25:
Resolution 25 Budget for the year 2003
General Assembly accepts the budget for the year 2003 set out in Appendix 1 to the Book of Reports.
After debate, the Revd Ray Adams proposed that the resolution be now put.
This was seconded by Mrs Ruth Clarke.
Assembly agreed.
Mr Stacy responded to questions, and the Moderator called upon the Assembly to vote.
Resolution 25 was carried.
The Moderator called upon the Revd D Alasdair Pratt to present the report of the Assembly Arrangements Committee.
After discussion, Mr Pratt responded and the Assembly received the report.
Mr Pratt moved adoption of Resolution 27:
Resolution 27 General Assembly 2004
General Assembly agrees that General Assembly in 2004 will meet at the University of Glamorgan from July 3rd
- 6th.
There being no debate, the Moderator called upon the Assembly to vote.
Resolution 27 was carried.
The Moderator, on behalf of the Assembly, thanked the Revd D Alasdair Pratt for his service as Convener of the Assembly Arrangements Committee.
Assembly adjourned.
