Constitution of Assembly

At 3.30 pm. members of Assembly met in the Great Hall on the Streatham campus at the University of Exeter. The Moderator, the Revd Dr David  Peel constituted the Assembly with prayer, the place and the time having been duly appointed.

Induction of Moderator

The Revd Elizabeth Caswell, Moderator-Elect, was inducted with prayer into the office of Moderator of the General Assembly of the United Reformed Church.  She signed the Assembly Bible and was presented with an inscribed copy of the Bible by the retiring Moderator of Assembly. 

Thanks to the Retiring Moderator

The thanks of the Church were expressed by the Moderator to the Revd David and Mrs Pat Peel together with Revd Jill Thornton, his chaplain.

Assembly then continued in worship, after which the Moderator gave her address to Assembly.

The Roll of Assembly was then placed on the table.

The overseas guests were presented by the Revd Elizabeth Nash, Convener of the Ecumenical Committee. Mrs Jean Potter, Secretary of the Committee for Interfaith Relations introduced the other-faith guests, Imam Siyid from the Exeter mosque and Mr Tony Reese from the Exeter synagogue.

Following greetings by the Rt Revd Alan MacDonald on behalf of the UK visitors and members, the Rt Revd Livingstone Buama on behalf of the overseas guests and members, and Mr Tony Reese on behalf of the other-faith guests, the Moderator gave her address to Assembly. 

Following prayer, Assembly was adjourned.
