Adept

British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV)

A 6-month accredited Environment Employment Programme for unemployed people seeking practical experience in conservation work is offered in order to pursue a career. They also run courses on Involving and working with your local community on environmental projects and Working with vulnerable groups. www.btcv.org

Building Bridges of Hope

This is a learning and sharing process for churches that are seeking new, creative ways of engaging with their communities for the sake of the Gospel and the common good. It’s an extensive practical exploration of what it means to be a mission-engaged church. This is an excellent training programme and process that will enable churches to respond to the needs of their communities in a way that shows God’s love and brings about real, lasting and positive change, both in their own attitudes, and in their neighbourhoods.

Churches Community Work Alliance (CCWA) Training Directory

This gives comprehensive details of courses and training opportunities for community work. It also includes sections on the principles and values of community work and a spiritual interpretation of church related community work. www.ccwa.org.uk Tel. 0191 334 3346.

 

Community Development Foundation    

Regularly publishes a National Training Programme with a selection of short courses delivered around England and Wales. They aim to enhance community development work practice eg. Assessing Community Strengths, Community Projects not Community Income and the Achieving Better Community Development (ABCD) planning and evaluation model.

Community Matters 

Offer short training courses that are specifically designed to support community organisations. Various courses around technical and legal matters, policies and procedures and developing skills. They also run basic one-day courses for community organisations that run community buildings. Developing your Community Building is free to groups who have little funding and find it difficult to get appropriate training.

Consultancy, Mission & Ministry 

A postgraduate Diploma and MA modular course designed to enable students to study, analyse, design and consult about the actualities of church and community work in the light of contemporary developments in the understanding of organisations, congregations and missiology. Tel. 01246 583739.

The central purpose of ContinYou is to make learning part of everyone’s everyday life, and to make sure that no one is excluded from learning. Faith in Living Course, The Partnership for Theological Education, Manchester

An ecumenical training programme that can result in the Diploma, BA or MA in Contextual Theology awarded by the University of Manchester and the ‘Higher Education Diploma in Church & Community’ which has been professionally endorsed by the England Standards Board for Community Development Work Education and Qualification (ESB). Endorsement by the ESB confirms that courses are good quality Community Development Work courses (‘kitemarking’) which reflect the National Occupational Standards and the value base of Community Development Work. This will also meet the demands of employers for an understandable and discrete set of qualifications in Community Development Work. This is a 4-year full-time course delivered on a part-time residential basis in Manchester for 6 or 12 weekends each year. The Church & Community modules are reinforced by learning through church and community placements. Gateways into Communities

These are a variety of short-term training and development programmes for volunteers, church members and clergy who may be involved in church community work or service and want to build on their experiences and affirm their community development work skills. Promoted by the United Reformed Church as part of the Training, Learning & Serving scheme, they are supported by the CCWA and the Iona Community, are available for people from any denomination and will begin in autumn 2005. www.urc.org.uk Tel. 0207 916 2020

Taster sessions from the Federation for Community Development Learning (FCDL)

Numerous training and development opportunities including a Diploma in Community Ministry, Urban Mission & Ministry Course, and Community Work modules.
