Some advice on setting up a
website for your church

How to go about setting up your own website

The United Reformed Church webcrew receives many requests from local churches to help them get online. While we are currently unable to offer a hands-on approach to this you can download our basic guide to getting online below where we offer advice on house style, content and how to buy your domain name. It also includes information about how the Disability Discrimination Act.

This guide is available in Word [.doc], rich text [.rtf] and PDF [.pdf] formats.

Checking the material on your site

It is wise to ensure that there is a proper process of approval within your church for material being placed on the site so that it does not represent only one person’s view. You also need to consider the question of who will be able to place material directly onto the site. Having more than one person with the ability to upload material onto the site can create problems unless there is very tight co-ordination between those involved. You certainly do not need approval from the URC nationally for material, any more than you expect to seek approval for the contents of your magazine!

Once you are online

Once your website is online, please do let us know your url (website address) so we can add your church's details to our comprehensive contacts list on the Church’s main website.

If you would like answers to other questions added to this list or have a question specific to your own site, feel free to email us. We will try to respond promptly but pressure of work may mean that there will be some delay.
