Child “smacking” vote falls

An attempt to force a vote on “smacking” of children failed because there was in sufficient time for a cross-party amendment to be considered, during discussion of the Children and Young Persons Bill in the House of Commons on Wednesday 8 October. Despite this, the Children are Unbeatable! Alliance feels it has made considerable progress in winning support for children to be given equal protection for assault. Members of local United Reformed churches had been encouraged to write to their MP, and join a vigil in support of a change to the law.
