Taiwanese delegation visits Church House

A Taiwanese delegation came to Britain to see church leaders and former missionaries, and met someone who is both, when they stopped at the United Reformed Church’s London headquarters. Leaders of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan visited Church House during a trip to Britain to thank former missionaries for their ministry in Taiwan. Among staff they met was deputy general secretary, the Revd Ray Adams, who was a missionary in Taiwan. Ray Adams served there with the Council for World Mission, from 1978-86, teaching church music at Tainan theological college.

The Presbyterian Church is by far the largest of the Protestant churches in Taiwan, and has a strong following among the indigenous peoples. It maintains a commitment to social justice and supports Taiwanese independence, maintaining that Taiwan and China are two different sovereign countries.

Pictured during the visit to Church House are (left to right) the Revd Chang Te-Chien, general secretary; Revd Asing Aman, moderator; the Revd Ray Adams, deputy general secretary of the United Reformed Church, the Revd Hsu Hsin-Te, ecumenical programme secretary; and Carys Humphreys, administrative assistant. The visit to London was followed by a celebration in Manchester, at which the delegation met many more former missionaries.
