TAX JUSTICE

Sourced

Tax is one of the most powerful tools that countries can use to lift their citizens out of poverty. It enables governments to raise money for vital services such as education, healthcare and transport, without having to depend on aid or loans from outside the country. Christian Aid is calling on local councils to take a stand against tax dodging – by posing a set of tax compliance questions to the companies with whom they do business. If enough councils do so, this closer scrutiny will send a clear message to multinational companies providing goods and services in our local areas (and in many cases also operating in developing countries), that tax dodging will not be tolerated.

CLIMATE CHANGE

The Big Switch

As Christians, we are called to put our faith into action by loving our neighbours and caring for the earth, our common home.By using clean, renewable energy we can help restore the earth and bring balance to God’s creation. Following the historic UN climate deal in Paris in December, the shift towards renewable energy has well and truly begun. Now we need to keep up the pressure on politicians and companies to go further.  One way we can do this is to take small positive steps in our homes, churches and communities. Churches of all denominations, shapes, sizes and locations are joining together to make a Big Church Switch to 100% renewable electricity in 2016. Christian Aid have teamed up with the Church of England’s Parish Buying scheme to support churches to switch easily and affordably through a dedicated website.
