The United Reformed Church, the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the Methodist Church and the United Reformed Church have added their voices to the growing call for the UN Security Council to demonstrate a united opposition to the violent actions of the Syrian regime.
Holly Mount United Reformed Church in Malvern, Worcestershire, had a central role in “Malvern Evolution Weekend”, a science and faith event, held earlier this month, to celebrate the contribution of Charles Darwin to evolutionary theory. Malvern played an important part in Darwin’s life; he went there for treatment after developing a fever during his voyage on HMS Beagle, and it was the place where Anne, his 10-year-old daughter, died; she is buried in the Priory churchyard.
A catalogue with more than 50 resources has been released to help UK churches make the most of their engagement with the 2012 Games.
Guides, manuals and materials are all available, through a single website, to help churches run a whole array of events from sport-themed children’s holiday clubs, community festivals and messy church, to a holiday club for the over 65s.
For the first time, the United Reformed Church, as a denomination, has registered with Back to Church Sunday. This means that, from 12 April, any United Reformed church across the three nations can register to take part in Back to Church Sunday 2012 – taking place on Sunday 30 September.
