Coronation Street chooses URC elder for Christian role
Delroy Brown, an elder at South Aston United Reformed Church, Birmingham, is featuring in Britain’s longest-running soap ‘Coronation Street’. Delroy, who appears in promotional clips for the URC’s Vision4Life programme, plays Mike Richardson, father in the soap’s only actively Christian family.
He said: “Christianity has not been represented in a positive way up to now; when it is, it's often in a poor light, pandering to negative stereotypes. We're seen as boring do-gooders who aren't really in touch with real life issues. I would like to think that Corrie can break that mould.”
Delroy’s role in Coronation Street is due to be screened on Friday 10 July. He will also shortly be filming for Emmerdale. "
