The Lonely Tree by Nicholas Halliday. Pub Halliday Books, pp32,ISBN 0953945987, £7.99

Simple Language and simple truth mark out this beautiful work by Nicholas Halliday, detailing the story of a lone evergreen tree in the heart of the New Forest. The tree forms a deep friendship of the wise, old oak tree but as the year turns and the leaves fall the little tree experiences the pain of loneliness and loss. This is a wonderful story of friendship, love, loss and hope. The barrenness of winter, almost without hope of spring is acknowledged and yet spring does come and new life is born. The illustrations will appeal to the computer graphics generation but the story is timeless. A wholesome and healing read.

“I think this book would help people who missed people a lot to understand why life has to go on” Robyn (aged 8)
