HARVEST SERVICE OUTLINE- from Traidcraft

Commitment for Life has always supported Fairtrade and this service is a great way of showing this support. The Traidcraft Harvest Service is written by Helen Garton and we highly recommend it for use at your Commitment for Life service. You can use stories from our mini magazine within the service. Why not choose goods from our four partner countries for the offertory with symbolic action?  You could also show the video advertised above.

General Assembly  2010 - Loughborough

At this year's General Assembly Loretta Minghella, new Director of Christian Aid, spoke about the URC’s Commitment for Life programme, praising the work it funds and the difference it makes, and thanking all the churches that were part of it:

“You need to know how much it means to us” she said, adding “the URC is Christian Aid’s single biggest church donor.”

News and views

New Malden URC put on a concert to share their musical gifts. The evening was a great success financially but also raised awareness of the issues faced by many of our partner countries.  Congratulations all round.

Event Co-ordinator Diane Howell said,

"So we did four things: gave some people, especially the children, the chance to perform,  had a very good evening, raised some money AND possibly most importantly, are now inspired and motivated in our support of what Commitment for Life does. People have already been talking about next year's one! It's been a great pleasure and privilege to have organised this event".

Commitment for Life encourages all United Reformed and Local Ecumenical Partnership churches to take action, pray and give for people across the world. It works with both Christian Aid and The World Development Movement. Last year we raised over £550,000 to help alleviate the root causes of poverty. 75% goes to Christian Aid to be divided equally among the four partner countries, 10% to the World Development Movement and 15% for  administration, resources and grant giving. It is the recommended way for all United Reformed Churches to give to Christian Aid.
